CELEBRITIES QUIT TWITTER | 22 June, 2020

The controversy of ‘star kids versus outsiders’, started by Kangana Ranaut, Shekhar Kapur and Abhinav Kashyap and further fuelled by actors like Manoj Bajpayee and Amit Sadh, has left a bitter taste in the mouths of some celebrities who have reacted by quitting the social media platform, Twitter. Sonakshi Sinha quit Twitter, saying that she did not want so much of negativity around her. It may be mentioned here that after the controversy arose, many Twitter followers of Bollywood stars and celebrities became offensive and started to abuse star-kids on the social media platform. Ayush Sharma, Saqib Saleem, Zaheer Iqbal and director Shashank Khaitan also left Twitter, citing negativity and nasty herd mentality as the reasons for quitting. Karan Johar, who unfollowed almost everybody he was following prior to the controversy which was sparked by Sushant Singh Rajput’s suicide, saw his followers on Twitter reduce by more than a million. Alia Bhatt also saw her followers decline by a million.
