RAKUL PREET SEEKS BAN ON MEDIA REPORTS ABOUT HER NAME IN DRUGS CASE | 18 September, 2020

Rakul Preet Singh yesterday (17th September) moved the Delhi high court, seeking to prevent a media trial and against unsubstantiated reports about her being carried in connection with a drugs case related to Sushant Singh Rajput’s death on 14th June. She sought a ban on telecast or publication of content related to the case that maligned and slandered her image. While not granting a stay, the high court issued notices to the Centre, Prasar Bharati, Press Council of India, and the News Broadcasters Association on the basis of her plea. Justice Navin Chawla listed the matter for further hearing on October 15.

Her plea states that although Rhea Chakraborty, who was arrested in the same drugs case, later retracted in court her alleged statement naming Rakul, Sara Ali Khan and dress designer Simone Khambatta, the media hadn’t bothered to clarify it. She said that she was a non-smoker, teetotaller, into fitness, yoga and meditation, and was also known for her healthy lifestyle, but her right to privacy and reputation had been violated as sponsors were withdrawing their contracts with her due to the unsubstantiated allegations being run against her.
