‘O’ PUSHPA I HATE TEARS | 28 February, 2020

Films @ 50’s ‘O’ Pushpa I Hate Tears (UA) is the story of a man who strays and how he is set right by his wife and her friend.

Aditya (Karthik Jayaram) is married to Pushpa (Arjumman Mughal) but he is in a relationship with his secretary, Teena (Anusmriti Sarkar). Pushpa is unaware of her husband’s extra-marital affair.

Aditya, one day, decides to have his wife murdered so that he can usurp her property. Pushpa is the daughter of a rich man. He gives Shyam (Krushna Abhishek) the contract to kill Pushpa, but Shyam turns out to be Pushpa’s childhood friend. How Pushpa and Shyam teach Aditya a lesson and put an end to his straying ways is what the rest of the film is all about.

Dinkar Kapoor’s story is pathetic and devoid of novelty. One has seen such stories in many earlier films. Adesh K. Arjun’s screenplay is weak except the comedy portions of Shyam. Even Adesh K. Arjun’s dialogues are ordinary.

Krushna Abhishek is entertaining as Shyam. Karthik Jayaram is alright as Aditya. Arjumman Mughal does a fair job as Pushpa. Anusmriti Sarkar lends decent support in a brief role as Teena. Akhilendra Mishra makes his mark in a tiny role as police inspector Chaubey. Anang Desai (as Pushpa’s rich father), Pradeep Kabra (as Kalu) and Jimmy Moses (as Lalu) provide routine support. Others are so-so.

Dinkar Kapoor’s direction is terribly weak. Ramji Gulati’s music is dull. Lyrics (Kanwar Juneja and Mack) are commonplace. Lollypop’s choreography is quite nice. Aslam Surti’s background music fails to create the desired impact. Arvindsinh Puvar’s camerawork is average. Pradeep Singh’s sets are ordinary. Kaushal Moses’ action and stunts are routine and meant only for front-benchers. Rajesh Shah’s editing is loose.

On the whole, ‘O’ Pushpa I Hate Tears will fail to bring a smile on anybody’s face. Flop.
