Yesteryear’s famous Punjabi film actor Indira Mehra passed away last week in NOIDA. She was 88. A prayer meeting was held on 16th June at Gurudwara Sector 18, NOIDA.
While she was a popular name in Punjabi cinema, Indira also did bit roles in Hindi films. She had blue eyes and was very beautiful. Because of her blue eyes, she was often referred to as Indira Billi. She married Shiv Kumar Mehra who owned Kumar Talkies in Delhi. She quit acting after her marriage.
Among the films she was seen in are Kiklee, Yamla Jatt, Billo, Lado Rani, Jagga, Mama Ji, Sassi Punnu, Shehar Di Kudi, Neem Hakeem, Pardesan and Patola. Among her Hindi films are Rangeela (1953), Faraar (1955), Milap (1955), Shree 420 (1955), Basant Bahar (1956), Yahudi (1958), Dil Deke Dekho (1959), Asli-Naqli (1962), Meri Surat Teri Ankhen (1963), Ali Baba Aur 40 Chor (1966), Phool Aur Patthar (1966) and Mere Huzoor (1968).
