ACTOR LOSES RS. 17 LAKH IN FINANCING SCAM | 8 August, 2025

A group of conmen lured actor Abhay Shankar Jha with false promises of arranging finance for his upcoming film and then tricked him into exchanging currency notes worth Rs. 17 lakh in denomination of Rs. 500 for Rs. 100. They cheated him and fled with his cash.

Abhay, a resident of Juhu (Bombay), lodged an FIR on August 6 with the Matunga (Bombay) police, naming the four persons — Roshan Kumar, Mahendra Singh, Ramesh and Ayush — who duped him of Rs. 17 lakh. The police registered an FIR for cheating, criminal conspiracy and breach of trust.

Jha claimed that he was approached by a man identifying himself as Roshan Kumar who said, he was in the finance business. Jha met him on June 26 at a three-star hotel at Juhu. Roshan later told him that they needed to send Rs. 17 lakh for the marriage of Mahendra Singh’s sister in denomination of Rs. 500 currency notes. Abhay Shankar Jha handed over Rs. 17 lakh in denomination of Rs. 500 currency notes to Ramesh on August 4, but he fled with the cash. After that, Roshan Kumar and the others stopped answering Jha’s calls.
