BONEY KAPOOR MOVES MADRAS HC AS THREE PERSONS CLAIMING SRIDEVI’S PROPERTY | 28 August, 2025

Producer Boney Kapoor has moved the Madras high court, alleging that three individuals have been unlawfully claiming rights over a Madras property of his late actress-wife, Sridevi. Kapoor told the court that the actress had purchased the property — located on East Coast Road (ECR) in Madras — on April 19, 1988 from one M.C. Sambanda Mudaliar. The man had three sons and two daughters. The family had entered into a mutual arrangement in February 1960 with respect to the division of the property between them.

In recent times, Boney’s plea said, three persons had been claiming rights over this property. Of these three persons, one is a woman who claims to be the second wife of one of the three sons of Mudaliar, and the other two are her (second wife’s) sons.

In his plea, Boney Kapoor pointed out that the second wife claims to have got married to Mudaliar’s son on February 5, 1975. Since the son’s first wife had died on June 24, 1999, the second wife’s marriage cannot be considered legal, he added. Boney Kapoor also questioned the jurisdiction of the revenue official to issue a legal heirship certificate to the three individuals and asked the court to revoke it at the earliest.

After hearing Boney Kapoor’s plea, Justice N. Anand Venkatesh directed the Tambaram Taluka tehsildar to take a decision within four weeks.

The property under dispute is used as a farmhouse retreat by Sridevi’s family.
