‘DAAL ROTI’ REVIEW | 31 January, 2025

Released last week in NOIDA, H.M. Ishaque and Aftab Pictures Pvt. Ltd.’s Daal Roti (UA) is the story of youngsters who migrate from the villages to the cities for better opportunities. They realise their mistake when life becomes hard in the cities. That’s the time they realise that farming is good enough to support them and their families and that they made a mistake by sacrificing their land and the agricultural income in pursuit of the mirage of riches in the cities. The drama also talks of the various beneficial schemes of the government of India for farmers.

Diwakar Praveen’s story looks like it has been written with a view to highlighting the government’s policies for farmers. His screenplay is so routine that the drama appears like a documentary on farming and agriculture. Diwakar Praveen’s dialogues are dull.

Dishant Gulliya does a fair job. Rupali Thapa is average. Kaustubh Dabral is so-so. Renu Malhotra performs routinely. Ajay Sharma is not too impressive. Retu Gulati does a routine job. Priyanka Dehlan’s acting is dull. Rakesh Giri passes muster. Riya Choudhary hardly stands her own. Sahil Siddiqui lends dull support. Arun Nagi is below the mark. Aditya Bhardwaj fits the bill.

Julee Jasmin’s direction is weak. Vishnudhar Mishra’s music is fair. Sameer Anjaan’s lyrics are quite nice. Lovenish Sharma’s background music hardly creates an impact. Mohit Saini’s cinematography is okay. Prakash Jha’s editing is loose.

On the whole, Daal Roti is a poor show.
