MCAI, SWA SIGN HISTORIC MoU | 5 March, 2025

The Music Composers Association of India (MCAI) and the Screenwriters Association (SWA) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at fostering stronger collaboration between music composers, lyricists and screenwriters. The MoU paves the way for better industry practices which include mutual respect in credit-sharing, and a more structured approach to creative collaboration in Indian cinema and television.

The MoU was announced at an event on 27th February where stalwarts of the industry, including Anu Malik, Varun Grover, Milind (of Anand-Milind), Kausar Munir and Mayur Puri, were present.

The MoU is a promise to ensure fair credit, respect and independence for all who contribute to the magic of music. Together, the music composers, lyricists and screenwriters will collaborate so that every word written by the lyricist and every melody composed by the music director is valued.

The MoU underlines that music composers and lyricists should be considered as primary artistes. It emphasises that the producer/banner would sign separate agreements with both, music directors and song writers. It also underlines that they should be given due credit in every advertisement and poster as well as all promotion.
