STAY SOUGHT ON ‘JOLLY LL.B 3’ OVER JUDICIARY’S DEPICTION | 11 September, 2025

One Yatin Desai of Ahmedabad has moved the Gujarat high court for a stay on the release of Jolly LL.B 3 over certain dialogues shown in the film’s teaser, which “lower the dignity of the judiciary”. Petitioner Desai raised questions on certain dialogues attributed to a judge, and urged the HC to direct the I & B ministry to immediately block the film’s teaser on all digital media platforms under the provisions of the Information Technology Act.

The petitioner prayed for staying the film’s release on September 19 and for the formation of a committee of judges, retired judges, lawyers and experts to review the film for scrutinising the content and removing the parts which depict the judiciary in poor light. The petitioner also sought cancellation of the certificate issued by the Central Board of Film Certification to the film and its teaser.

Yatin Desai cited an order by the Aurangabad bench of the Bombay high court, which had formed a committee to review Jolly LL.B 2, following similar litigation. Four parts were deleted from the film after the scrutiny. The petition clarifies, “The petitioner does not seek a complete ban on the film; the prayer is that before the scheduled release on September 19, the film be reviewed by a committee… to ensure that objectionable content is removed”.
