HC GRANTS ASHA BHOSLE TEMPORARY RELIEF IN PERSONALITY RIGHTS PLEA | 30 September, 2025

The Bombay high court on September 29 granted singer Asha Bhosle temporary relief in her plea to protect her personality rights. The plea claimed that two US-based AI platforms utilised sophisticated algorithms to create audio and visual content which allegedly and unauthorisedly distorted and modified her sound recordings to create an illicit voice model replicating her voice, vocal style, technique and voice arrangements. They further provided public access to such models, thus enabling others to generate audio recordings of her ‘voice’.

The likeness of her voice, images, photographs and merchandise are then sold online, thus wrongfully exploiting her publicity and personality rights, her counsel argued before Justice Arif Doctor.

Asha Bhosle filed the suit and the interim application to restrain the AI platforms and others. Last July, the high court’s single-judge bench of Justice Riyaz Chagla granted similar relief to singer Arijit Singh when it restrained several entities from violating his personality and publicity rights.

Asha Bhosle’s matter will be heard after two weeks.
