A criminal case for rape and physical assault has been registered against Abhishek Mishra, CEO of the Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival, at the Malvani police station at Malad in Bombay. The FIR (no. 1313 dated October 23) invokes sections 69 and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
According to the complainant, she was raped and physically assaulted by Mishra on a number of occasions. The complaint also alleges that Mishra threatened to leak private photographs of the victim, made false promises of marriage, and intimidated the victim by claiming to have political and bureaucratic connections. The complaint further alleges that Abhishek Mishra portrayed himself as a Class I government officer, and drove a car bearing the government of India emblem and a red beacon light.
This is the second rape-related FIR against Abhishek Mishra this year. The first case was registered in May at the Amboli police station at Andheri, Bombay. The victim in that case accused him of rape and extortion.
