Ace Malayalam filmmaker Shaji N. Karun, whose realistic cinema won him global recognition, passed away in Thiruvananthapuram today (28th April). He was 73 and had been suffering from cancer. He had been admitted to a private hospital and was brought home just two days back.
The end came barely two weeks after Shaji received the JC Daniel award for lifetime contribution to Malayalam Cinema on April 16. Shaji Karun was the recipient of Padma Shri and French honour Order of Arts and Letters. He had been the chairman of the Kerala State Film Development Corporation.
Shaji is survived by his wife and two sons.
