The Indian Performing Right Society (IPRS) reported a royalty distribution of over Rs.600 crore in financial year 2024-25, which is the highest in its history. In the previous three years, the IPRS distributed over Rs. 1,000 crore in royalties to more than 8,200 members. Last year, the amount of royalty distributed was Rs. 500 crore.
The surge in collections and distributions was due to strategic licensing deals with OTT platforms, telecom companies and broadcasters. Streaming platforms alone contributed over 70% of the royalty in recent years.
