‘TANGO MALHAR’ (MARATHI) REVIEW | 19 September, 2025

Aglets and Eyelets Production’s Tango Malhar (Marathi; UA) is the story of a young rickshaw driver.

Malhar (Nitesh Kamble) is a poor rickshaw driver leading a mundane life. Burdened by family responsibilities, he feels isolated from his peers. His life changes forever when he accidentally discovers Argentine Tango. He and his younger sister, Rani (Kriti Vishwanathan), start practising the dance form — secretly, of course. Malhar soon finds himself torn between his conservative roots and the elite dance world. But he realises that the dance has changed his life forever.

Manish Dharmani and Saya Date have written a story which has limited appeal because of the style in which it has been written. The duo’s screenplay is routine and doesn’t really keep the viewers engaged. The drama, therefore, fails to involve the audience. Dialogues, penned by the two, are commonplace.

Nitesh Kamble is ordinary as Malhar. Kriti Vishwanathan does an average job as Rani. Seema Vartak lends routine support as Malhar’s mother. Akshay Gaikwad is alright as Santosh. Others barely pass muster.

Saya Date’s direction is dull. Music (by Shardul Bapat and Samarang) is not of the popular variety. This is a minus point, considering that it is a dance film. Lyrics are functional. Sumedh Tarde, Omkar Athavale and Gourav Malji’s camerawork is ordinary. Saurav Radhakrishnan’s art direction is so-so. Editing (by Kshama Padalkar) leaves something to be desired.

On the whole, Tango Malhar is a dull fare.

Released on 19-9-’25 at Movie Time Goregaon (daily 1 show) and other cinemas of Bombay thru August Entertainment. Publicity & opening: poor.
