Babul Supriyo, who was heckled and assaulted by some students of Jadavpur University in Bengal on 19th September, has decided to forgive the student who attacked him. The student, Debanjan Ballav, is not a student of the University. His mother, a cancer patient, requested that her son be spared.
Moved by the lady’s request, Union minister and singer Babul Supriyo tweeted, “Please don’t worry, aunty. I will not harm your son in any way. I just want that he takes lessons from his misdeed. I have not lodged any police complaint against anybody, nor did I allow anyone to do so. Shed your worries and get well soon. Take my pronaam.”
The development came barely a day after Supriyo tweeted a photograph showing a young man pulling his hair in JU on 19th September, asking if the administration was willing to act.
Debanjan lives in Calcutta and is a second-year student of a college in the city. He is aligned with an ultra-left group — USDF. His father is a school teacher.
