Director Mohsin Khan’s film on surrogacy, Mamta Child Factory, has not been cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification, almost two months after it was viewed by the examining committee. CBFC assistant regional officer (ARO) Premraj Aachari informed the producers that since surrogacy was “legally not permissible” in India, no decision about the certification could be given.
The funny part is that Mamta Child Factory is a remake of a Marathi film, Delivery Boy (2024), which had been certified ‘UA’. Why, the film was also granted subsidy under the Maharashtra government’s subsidy scheme. Mohsin’s simple question: “If Delivery Boy could be certified by the CBFC, why not its Hindi remake, Mamta Child Factory?”
