Maharashtra state cultural affairs minister Ashish Shelar on September 16 said that the Maharashtra Cinema Act would be amended to facilitate ease of doing business. He directed the department to submit a proposal to the Centre seeking approval for amending the Act.
Shelar was speaking at a meeting held in Bombay to discuss various problems and demands of the Cinema Owners and Exhibitors Association of India (COEAI). He said that the government was positive about changing the archaic rules for licensing cinema halls, regulating them and for their facilities and security and making a policy in line with the development of cinema business in tandem with the times.
