RASH DRIVING F.I.R. SLAPPED ON VIJAY’S DRIVER | 6 October, 2025

A day after the Madras high court questioned the Tamil Nadu police why no FIR was filed over two alleged hit-and-run accidents involving the convoy of actor-politician Vijay’s political campaign on September 27 in the Karur stampede tragedy, the police charged the driver of actor-politician Vijay’s bus with negligent driving. The stampede left 41 persons dead and many others injured.

The case against the bus driver was registered under section 281 of the BNS, which deals with rash driving or riding on a public way that endangers life.  The HC had earlier said, “Media footage shows that the bus carrying Vijay was involved in an accident where two motorcycles were hit. After seeing the accident, the driver fled the scene. A similar collision at the rear of the bus is also visible. In both cases, FIRs have not been registered.”

A police SIT, formed to investigate the stampede, began its work on October 5.
