Senior IPS officer P. Sitarama Anjaneyulu was arrested on April 22 for allegedly misusing his position and illegally arresting a Bombay actress and her parents in 2024. He reportedly acted on the order of YSRCP minister K. Vidyasagar. He had been suspended in the case in September 2024.
Andhra Pradesh CID picked up Anjaneyulu in Hyderabad and brought him to Vijayawada. He is accused of misusing his official position to orchestrate “illegal” arrest of actress Kadambari Jethwani and her parents from Bombay, reportedly on instructions of YSRCP politician K. Vidyasagar. The case gained prominence because of the involvement of multiple senior police officers and its politically sensitive nature.
The CID said, Anjaneyulu allegedly played a key role in deciding what charges to file against the actress, how to arrest her, and who else to implicate. The actress alleged that they were wrongly jailed and that a group of senior police officers accted in collusion with Vidyasagar.
The arrest stemmed from a February 2024 case in which Vidyasagar accused the actress of forging documents and selling a property at Jaggaiahpet. The actress said that Vidyasagat had fabricated land documents to frame her. She said, the false case was filed against her because she refused to withdraw a sexual harassment complaint she had filed in Bombay against a businessman. The CID found that the complaint was part of a larger conspiracy driven by a land dispute.
