TWO PSOs OF ZUBEEN GARG ARRESTED | 11 October, 2025

The Assam Special Investigation Team (SIT) has arrested two police personnel who served as personal security officers of singer Zubeen Garg. With this, the number of arrests in his death case has gone up to seven. The security officers were arrested after three days of interrogation over Rs. 1 crore-plus found in their bank accounts. A court remanded them to five days’ SIT custody.

The two police persons — Nandeswar Bora and Prabin Baishya — had been assigned to Garg after he received death threats from the banned Ulfa-I. They were with the music icon for nearly a decade.

Zubeen died on September 19 while swimming in the sea in Singapore, a day before he was to perform at the North East India Festival there. His death is being probed by an SIT appointed by Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The others arrested in the case are festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, Zubeen’s manager Siddharth Sharma, drummer Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, co-singer Amritprabha Mahanta, and Zubeen’s cousin, Sandipon Garg, who is a DSP.

Zubeen’s wife, Garima, has expressed continued patience with the probe. She feels that those arrested so far, including Sandipon, have not been fully truthful with the investigators.
