‘BALA’ MAKES A KILLING AT BOX-OFFICE | 10 November, 2019

Ayushmann Khurrana has done it again. His Bala is turning out to be yet another hit at the ticket windows. With this film, the actor is all set to complete his hat-trick of successes this year.

For Khurrana, year 2019 started with Article 15, a dark film which was expected to appeal mainly to the critics but pleasantly suprised people when the audience gave it the thumbs up. It was followed by Dream Girl which became Ayushmann’s highest-grossing film so far, overtaking his previous best, Badhaai Ho, by a few crore rupees. The latest, Bala, has done tremendously well in the first two days.

It opened on Friday, November 8. The film started fairly well in the morning shows but positive word of mouth saw collections spiking as the day progressed so that the first day ultimately closed at Rs. 10.15 crore, Ayushmann Khurrana’s best opening so far. Of course, it was also the actor’s widest release ever. Saturday saw a huge jump in collections because of the positive word of mouth for the film. The figure for Saturday was Rs. 15.73 crore. Therefore, the first two days’ total for the film was Rs. 25.88 crore.

The question being discussed in trade circles is whether the film’s collections will overtake the total collections of Dream Girl which were around Rs. 142 crore.
