MAHARASHTRA SC/ST PANEL ISSUES NOTICE TO ACTOR RAHUL SOLAPURKAR | 11 February, 2025

The Maharashtra State Commission for SC and ST has issued a show cause notice to Marathi film actor Rahul Solapurkar over his controversial comments on the maker of the Constitution, Babasaheb Ambedkar, in which the latter was referred to as “Brahmin in Vedic context”.

According to Dharampal Meshram, vice chairman of the State Commission, the show cause notice has been sent to Solapurkar, and action will be taken against him if he doesn’t reply. A letter has also been sent to the Pune police, asking them to investigate the matter.

The notice seeks details on his references to scriptures while making the controversial claims. Meshram said,”One must have a sense of responsibility before making a statement on revered personalities. We have asked Solapurkar to provide proof of his source of information.”

Incidentally, the actor has been embroiled in a controversy for the second time in a week. Former cabinet minister from Congress, Nitin Raut, demanded the arrest of the actor for causing unrest between communities. “This man seems to be making statements to garner publicity or because he is part of a larger conspiracy to tarnish the biggest idols of this country,” said Raut.
