Shooting of first-time producer Namit Malhotra’s Ramayan started on April 2 in Bombay. With a budget of Rs. 900-1,000 crore, this will be, by far, the costliest Indian film to be made. It is being directed by Nitesh Tiwari (in picture above) and stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, and Kannada films’ superstar Yash as Ravan. Arun Govil plays king Dashrath.
Even as shooting is in progress on a set at Film City, eight or nine more sets are under construction at Film City. This itself — eight-nine sets under construction simultaneously — may be a record for an Indian film. The film will be rich in visual effects and computer graphics as it is producer Malhotra’s desire to showcase the epic tale of Hindu mythology to the world on a scale which may well be mind-numbing.
