Veteran cinematographer, filmmaker and producer Gangu Ramsay breathed his last this morning (7th April) in Bombay at the age of 83. The second eldest son of producer F.U. Ramsay, Gangu was battling health issues for the past month. He had been admitted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital.
Gangu Ramsay’s illustrious career spanned several decades, leaving an indelible mark on the Indian film industry. He lent his creative vision to over 50 films under the Ramsay Brothers banner, as cinematographer, director and/or producer. Among those films are Veerana, Purana Mandir, Bandh Darwaza, Do Gaz Zameen Ke Neeche, Saamri, Tahkhana, Purani Haveli and Khoj.
He was the cinematographer of Saif Ali Khan’s film, Aashiq Awara, and also collaborated with Akshay Kumar in a number of films like Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi, Sabse Bada Khiladi, Mr. & Mrs. Khiladi, Paandav, and Mr. Bond. Besides films, Gangu Ramsay also left his mark on television, notably with the acclaimed The Zee Horror Show which captivated the audience for over eight years. Other than that, he was also associated with Saturday Suspense, Naaginn, and Zimbo on Zee TV.
