RANYA RAO GOLD SMUGGLING CASE: BAIL PLEA ADJOURNED | 18 March, 2025

The bail petition of Kannada film actress Ranya Rao, who was arrested by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in a gold smuggling case, has been adjourned to March 19. The plea was heard on March 17 in the 64th city civil and sessions court in Bangalore, which directed the DRI to file its objections before the next hearing.

This follows the special court for economic offences rejecting Rao’s previous bail plea last week, citing the seriousness of the charges against the actress.

In a related development, the Karnataka high court has extended its interim order preventing the DRI from arresting Ranya’s husband, Jatin Hukkeri, in connection with the ongoing probe. Meanwhile, the second accused in the case, hotelier Tarun Raja, has been remanded to judicial custody for 15 days as investigations continue. Ranya herself is currently lodged in the Parappana Agrahara jail in Bangalore.
