Brilliant, extraordinary, superb! That’s the Batwara 1947 trailer. High on drama, melodrama, tension, action and emotions, the film seems set for a long run when it is released on 14th August.
Rajkumar Santoshi and Sunny Deol, who delivered a hat-trick of hits with Ghayal (1990), Damini (1993) and Ghatak (1996), are collaborating — after a gap of 30 years — for the fourth time as director and hero. And as Sunny remarked at the trailer launch today (28th July), “I hope, after this film too, we make more films together.” If what Sunny said, turns out to be true, Batwara 1947 could well turn out to be the double hat-trick film! For, the trailer suggests that the film, based on noted playwright and author Asghar Wajahat’s super-hit stage-play, Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya Woh Jamyai Nai, has all the trappings of a super-hit.
Information predicts:
- Even though Batwara 1947 has been certified for adults only, it has the potential to sweep the box-office.
- Its dialogues will be met with thunderous applause in the cinema halls — the kind which one saw in Sunny’s Gadar Ek Prem Katha (2001) and Gadar 2 (2023).
- The emotions will make the audience cry buckets.
- Sunny Deol will once again consolidate his position as a supremely bankable star.
- Shabana Azmi will reiterate that when it comes to getting into the skin of a character, there are very few who can compete with her.
- Karan Deol, whose debut film, Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas, and second film, Velle, both bombed at the box-office and almost sealed his career, will get a new lease of life with Batwara 1947. He plays Sunny Deol’s son in the film which talks about the time when India was divided into two countries — India and Pakistan. Karan’s dialogue, “Aur tu mere baap ko nahin jaanta… Woh na ghar dekhenge, na sarhad, seedha ghus ke maarenge!” will be met with such a deafening applause in the film that it will win Karan lakhs of fans.
- Rajkumar Santoshi will prove that even after 36 years, the fire in him hasn’t diminished. If at all, it can light up the screens very brightly.
- Aamir Khan will once again prove that as a producer, he can rarely go wrong. This time over, he has backed a film which has the potential to rule the box-office charts for weeks together.
