The Gurdaspur district election officer has reported to the Election Commission of India that BJP MP Sunny Deol had exceeded the limit of Rs. 70 lakh poll expenses during his election campaigning. He reportedly spent Rs. 8.51 lakh extra, which amounts to corrupt practices under section 123(6) of the Representation Of The People Act, 1951. As per section 8A of the Act, an MP can even be disqualified on the ground of corrupt practices.
