PANDIT JASRAJ GIVEN STATE HONOURS, 21-GUN SALUTE IN FINAL JOURNEY | 21 August, 2020

Legendary classical vocalist Pandit Jasraj’s final journey in Bombay was marked with state honours and a 21-gun salute. His mortal remains were taken to the Pawan Hans crematorium on 20th August. The 90-year-old had died on 17th August in New Jersey.

The police personnel draped the tricolour around his mortal remains which were flown to India. This was accompanied by a round of applause from Panditji’s actress-daughter, Durga Jasraj, and others. The final farewell was accompanied by a 21-gun salute. Despite the pandemic, the music fraternity people gathered in large numbers to pay their last respects. The funeral pyre was lit by Panditji’s music director-son, Sharang Dev.

Exactly a year ago, on 20th August, 2019, music lovers had witnessed the burial of music maestro Khayyam who, too, was given a send-off with full state honours.
