Kangana Ranaut and her sister, Rangoli Chandel, have been asked to appear before the Bandra police in Bombay on November 23 and 24 in connection with “objectionable comments on social media to spread communal tension between Hindus and Muslims”. A case was registered in the Bandra metropolitan magistrate court in October by casting director and fitness expert Munnawar Ali Sayyed. The court asked the Bandra police to file an FIR against the sisters and ordered the Bombay police to investigate the case. The sisters were booked under sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups), 295A (deliberate and malicious act to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting their religion) and 124A (sedition) of the Indian Penal Code.
The Bombay police had on two earlier occasions asked the sisters to appear before them but they had pleaded inability to do so.
