The Bombay crime branch on January 11 arrested car designer Dilip Chhabria in a fresh case of cheating comedian and actor Kapil Sharma of Rs. 5.7 crore. Chhabria had been arrested on December 29, 2020, in a car financing and dual registration racket and had been sent to judicial custody last week. The police on January 11 sought permission from the 37th metropolitan court in Bombay for his custody in the Kapil Sharma case.
Kapil had filed a complaint before the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) in September 2020, alleging that Chhabria had not delivered him a customised make-up van, ordered in 2017, despite making a payment of Rs. 5.7 crore, and had been demanding money for parking charges for the period it was being customised. Dilip Chhabria was to be produced before the metropolitan magistrate court today (January 12). According to the police, six more people had complained to the crime branch against Dilip.
