The film ticket pricing issue in Andhra Pradesh has taken a new turn with the Y.S. Jagan-led government’s latest diktat. The Jagan government will soon launch a portal to track the sale of movie tickets at single-screen cinemas and multiplexes across the state.
“Government, after careful examination of the procedure of the sale of tickets in the cinema theatres hereby orders to develop a portal for online booking of cinema tickets on the lines of Railway Online Ticketing System. This Online Ticketing System will be managed by the A.P. State Film, Television and Theatre Development Corporation,” the new G.O. read.
The principal secratary to the Andhra Pradesh government, Kumar Vishwajeet, issued a new order in connection with the previous order in April this year, capping the price of the movie tickets across the state. A high-level committee comprising top bureaucrats and administrators has been set up to oversee the blueprints, development and implementation of the proposed system.
The latest G.O. is expected to prevent black marketing in the sale of movie tickets, and bring in transparency into the film business to a great extent. It is still not known how the film industry bigwigs, trade circles and cinegoers will react to this government order. Meanwhile, the Telugu film industry celebrities, led by Chiranjeevi, will meet CM Jagan in a few days and will discuss the issues pertaining to the government’s order on the capping of movie ticket pricing.
