Nazir Hoosein, owner of Liberty Cine­ma of Bombay, passed away on the night of 12th May at Bombay Hospital. He was 78. His wife, Mrunal Gole, said, he was suffering from chronic obstructive pulmo­nary disease which made his lungs weak. He was cremated on 14th at the Chand­anwadi crematorium.

Hoosein was a motor sports enthusiast and was instrumental in starting the Himalayan Rally as the first president of the Himalayan Rally Association. Hoosein was a perfectionist. His father, Habib Hoosein, founded Liberty Cinema in 1947 after India’s independence. It deri­ves its name from the country’s independence. Liberty Cinema building is an art deco landmark of Bombay city.
