FILM CITY REVAMP: THIRD TENDER INVITATION FAILS | 18 May, 2019

The third attempt by the Maharashtra government to invite bids for the revamping of the Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari (Film City) at Goregaon in Bombay, has also failed. The plan was to redesign the area along the lines of Universal Studios in Los Angeles.

The first time the state floated a global tender for the revamp was in July 2018. Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries Ltd., Anil Ambani’s Reliance Big Entertainment, and Bhanot Infra Venture had attended a pre-bid meeting in December last year but things hadn’t moved much thereafter. Despite two more extensions to the bidding process, no bidder has come forward. The government has now cancelled the bid and will change the tender conditions to attract more bidders. The project cost is said to be Rs. 2,600 crore.
