The United Arab Emirates announced on 19th December that it will no longer censor films released in cinemas. This is viewed as the country’s latest effort to project itself as a liberal hub which would be attractive to foreigners. Instead of deleting sensitive scenes which could offend traditional Islamic sensibilities, the Emirati Media Regulatory Authority will introduce a new 21+ age category for viewers.
The Authority tweeted that the movies will be screened in cinemas according to their international versions.
