INDIA LOSES ITS VOICE: LATA MANGESHKAR NO MORE | 6 February, 2022

Veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar lost her battle with Death this morning at Breach Candy Hospital. She breathed her last today (6th February) at the age of 92.

The nightingale of India, as she was often aptly referred to, had been admitted to the hospital 25 days back with COVID-19 and pneumonia. She was kept on ventilator in the ICU and had even showed signs of recovery around the end of last month. She was taken off the ventilator a few days back but had to be put on ventilator again yesterday (5th) when her condition deteriorated.

The Indian music scene will never be the same again without Lata didi who regaled music aficionados for more than 75 years. She stepped into the world of singing at the tender age of 13. Her songs in Ram Teri Ganga Maili, Veer-Zaara, Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!, Shor and hundreds of more films have entertained audiences for generations. Music has always been an integral part of Indian films, and Lata Mangeshkar was the strongest pillar of the music world. With her demise, the music as well as the Indian film industry has been orphaned.

Lata ji was honoured with the Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan and even the Bharat Ratna.

Her mortal remains will be kept at Shivaji Park for the public to pay their last respects.
