Abhay Sinha, who had been the senior vice president of the Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA) for the last 11 years, was elected its president yesterday (9th April) soon after his group had a sweeping victory at the elections to the executive committee held at Valia Hall, Andheri, Bombay. The only other group in the fray — K.C. Bokadia group — faced a miserable defeat. Out of a total of 23 seats in the executive committee, Abhay Sinha’s group won 19 while Bokadia’s group won only four seats. The shocking part was that K.C. Bokadia himself lost the elections.
In the Prime Class, Abhay Sinha’s group bagged all the 16 seats. In the Associate Class-I, two seats went to Abhay Sinha’s group while three seats were bagged by Bokadia’s group. Among TV Programme Producers, the two groups won one seat each. A total of 49 producers were in the fray for 23 seats. In the Prime Class, there were 35 producers in competition for 16 seats. In the Associate Class-I, a total of 11 members were in the fray for five seats. Three TV Programme Producers were battling it out for two seats. Ashoke Pandit polled the highest number of votes in the Prime Class.
Although the newly-elected executive committee will vote the other office-bearers at its meeting on 11th April, it elected Abhay Sinha as the IMPPA president soon after the results of the elections to the executive committee were announced.
A total of 243 votes were cast in the Prime Class. In the Associate Class-I, there were 202 votes cast while for TV Programme Producers, 35 members cast their votes. None of the votes was invalid.
The victors in the Prime Class: Ashoke Pandit (polled 166 votes, the highest number in this group), Abhay Sinha (163), Babubhai Thiba (163), Nishant Ujjwal (156), Atul Patel (153), Pradeep Singh (153), Rajkumar R. Pandey (153), Bharat Patel (147), Ratnakar Kumar (147), Roshan Singh (147), Ghanshyambhai Talaviya (145), Harsukhbhai Dhaduk (138), Tinu Verma (132), Vinod B. Gupta (129), Jagdishchandra Bariya (126) and Yusuf Shaikh (118). As mentioned above, all the 16 candidates were from the Abhay Sinha group.
Winners in the Associate Class-I: Rakesh Nath (Rikku) (polled 124 votes, the highest number of votes in this Class), Sushama Shiromanee (119), Kukoo Kohli (113), Amit Bokadia (109) and Mahendra Dhariwal (105). Rakesh Nath (Rikku), Amit Bokadia and Mahendra Dhariwal belong to the Bokadia group.
Among the TV Programme Producers, Manish Jain (Bokadia group) with 23 votes, and Sanjeev Kumar Singh (of the Abhay Sinha group) with 16 votes were declared elected.

The losers in the Associate Class-I: Dilip Gulati (97), Thakur Tapssvi (86), Darshan Bagga (78), Sunil Kumar Boobna (75), Vijay V. Patkar (69) and Laxman Sikhoo More (5).
Meenakshi Sagar, with 15 votes, lost in the TV Programme Producers Class.
