A special court on 9th April finally cleared the decks for a biopic on Rohit Thangappan Joseph alias Satish Kalia, gangster Chhota Rajan’s 44-year-old sharpshooter who was convicted for the murder of journalist J. Dey in 2011. Special MCOCA judge A.T. Wankhede conditionally allowed Kalia to sign the agreement documents of the film which is being designed to serve as a cautionary tale on his life. However, the court has said that permission would have to be taken before anything is published.
In his application, Kalia, who is serving a life sentence, had said that there were certain scenes in the under-production film which may replicate incidents that led to his arrest, for which the film’s producer, Ganesh Patil, required his (Kalia’s) permission.
