‘LATHTHI’ (DUBBED) REVIEW | 30 December, 2022

Rana Productions’ Laththi (dubbed from the Tamil film of the same name; UA) is an action thriller. Police constable Muruganantham (Vishal) is suspended for beating up the wrong person to get a confession from him that he had raped a girl. During his suspension period, he encounters the actual rapist. What happens thereafter?

A. Vinoth Kumar has written a fairly interesting story about a police constable and how the system makes a sacrificial goat out of him. His screenplay is alright but it lacks novelty as one has seen such dramas in the past too. Dialogues are okay.

Vishal does a fine job as Muruganantham. Sunaina acts well as his wife, Kavitha. Prabhu makes a fine impact as DIG Kamal. Master Lirish Raghav has his moments as Muruganantham’s son, Rasu. Thalaivasal Vijay (as DSP Ranganathan), Munishkanth (as Panneer Selvan, head constable), Ramana (as Vella), A. Venkatesh (as police inspector Gnanamuthu), Vinod Sagar, Misha Ghoshal, Vinodhini Vaidyanathan and the others lend fair support.

A. Vinoth Kumar’s direction is alright. Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music is okay. Lyrics are functional. Song picturisations are average. Cinematography (by Balasubramaniem and Balakrishna Thota) is of a very good standard. Action scenes are quite thrilling. N.B. Srikanth’s editing should’ve been crisper. Dubbing is reasonably nice.

On the whole, Laththi is an ordinary entertainer which will go quite unnoticed on the Hindi screen because of lack of promotion.

Released on 30-12-’22 at Nazrana Bhiwandi (daily 4 shows) of Bombay thru UFO Cine Media Network. Publicty & opening: dull. …….Also released all over. Opening was weak everywhere.
