ACTOR-WRITER-DIRECTOR AMAR SNEH BATTLING HEALTH ISSUES, POVERTY | 3 March, 2023

Writer-director-actor Amar Sneh seems to have been forgotten by the film industry. He is battling penury and ill-health for some years now in Himachal Pradesh where he had gone many years ago to set up a film city. The project failed to take off due to political rivalry between then Union telecom minister Pandit Sukh Ram and chief minister Virbhadra Singh.

Sneh, who made the Somalian English film The Somali Darvish, and acted in a number of films like Sister, Cinema-Cinema, Amman, Saiyan Magan Pahelwani Mein and Jan-E-Alam, then started the Sneh Film Institution in Mandi town of Himachal Pradesh. In 2021, he was struck with paralysis. The 70-year-old needs financial assistance and proper medical care. A team from the Mandi district administration on March 2 called on Amar Sneh in his village and assured him of financial assistance from the government.
