‘LEO’ UNCERTIFIED TRAILER IN CINEMAS: CBFC SENDS LEGAL NOTICE TO CINEMAS | 9 October, 2023

The trailer of Tamil film Leo, starring ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay, is in the eye of a controversy for two reasons. The CBFC has sent cinemas all over Tamil Nadu show cause notices for screening the uncertified trailer. While the film, slated for release on October 19, was certified  ‘UA’, the trailer wasn’t. The CBFC has asked the cinemas to intimate the office which provided the uncertified trailer to them to screen. It has asked them why action should not be taken against them as exhibition of uncertified content is a serious and non-compoundable criminal offence under section 7 of part 2 of the Cinematograph Act. The cinemas have been asked to reply before October 11.

The second controversy relates to a cuss word mouthed by Vijay in the trailer. Although the trailer has got millions of views on YouTube, the swear word has sparked off a controversy.
