After some family members of Bangladesh national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam condemned the rendition of his patriotic song, ‘Karar oi louho kopat’, by A.R. Rahman in Pippa, his US-based granddaughter, Anindita Kazi (in picture above), claimed that her mother’s signature used in the contract for the film was not authentic and that the address on the agreement was not that of her mother’s residence.
The family members have demanded immediate removal of the “distorted” adaptation of the song from the film and all digital platforms. They have also threatened legal action against the producers in both, India and Bangladesh.
In a Facebook live session on November 18, Anindita pointed out the alleged discrepancies in the contract for the song’s adaptation and recreation licence, and called on the Bengal and Bangladesh governments to initiate investigations.
The agreement with the producers of Pippa was reportedly signed by Kalyani Kazi, daughter-in-law of poet Nazrul, in September 2021 in exchange for Rs. 2 lakh. Kalyani passed away in May this year, before the film’s release this month. Kalyani’s daughter, Anindita, said, that the address in the contract was that of her brother, Anirban’s office. She also alleged discrepancies in the account details, linking them to Anirban. On his part, Anirban clarified that he was open to any probe.
