HOLLYWOOD YET AGAIN OUTDOES BOLLYWOOD, ‘SUPERMAN’ OPENS BIGGER THAN ‘MAALIK’, ‘AANKHON KI GUSTAAKHIYAN’

Both the Bollywood releases of this week — MAALIK (Rs. 3 crore) and AANKHON KI GUSTAAKHIYAN (less than Rs. 0.50 crore) — opened to below-average houses whereas Hollywood’s SUPERMAN (Rs. 7.20 crore) took a good start. Just like last week (JURASSIC WORLD: REBIRTH versus METRO… IN DINO), Hollywood outshone Bollywood this week too!

Metro… In Dino may have started slow but collections picked up during the weekend on the strength of youth patronage. It netted Rs. 3.35 crore on the first day. Collections jumped to Rs. 5.75 crore on Saturday, and further to Rs. 6.70 crore on Sunday. After the first weekend total of Rs. 15.80 crore, collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 2.70 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 2.85 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 2.45 crore, Thursday – Rs. 2.20 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 10.20 crore. In this way, the first week’s total was Rs. 26 crore.

Jurassic World: Rebirth (dubbed and the original English versions) did very well in the first weekend and fairly well during the weekdays. The film has become a fare for family outing. The first weekend started with a take of Rs. 9.21 crore. Collections on Saturday saw a huge jump so that the day closed at Rs. 13.97 crore. The total for Sunday was Rs. 16.78 crore. In this way, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 16.52 crore. Therefore, the first week closed at Rs. 56.48 crore.

Maa dropped markedly — around 70% — in 2nd week. The film netted about Rs. 4 crore in the second weekend, and another Rs. 3 crore during the weekdays, taking the second week’s total to approximately Rs. 7 crore. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 30 crore.

F1: The Movie (dubbed and the original English versions) maintained pretty well in 2nd week, mainly the original English version. Performance-wise, the English version has collected more than 25 times what the dubbed versions have jointly collected in 2nd week. The second weekend started with a net collection of Rs. 3.29 crore on Friday. Collections on Saturday and Sunday increased to Rs. 5.55 crore and Rs. 6.07 crore respectively. Therefore, the total for the weekend was Rs. 14.91 crore. Collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 2.38 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 2.60 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 2.43 crore, Thursday – Rs. 2.56 crore. With the total for the weekdays being Rs. 9.97 crore, the second week closed at Rs. 24.88 crore. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 59.66 crore.
