The opening of WAR on Wednesday (Gandhi Jayanti holiday) was historic. SYERAA NARASIMHA REDDY took a phenomenal opening in the South on Wednesday but its dubbed Hindi version was a slow starter.
War created history on 2nd October by netting Rs. 51.60 crore on the first day. The dubbed Tamil and Telugu versions collected a total of Rs. 1.75 crore. In this way, the first day’s total was Rs. 53.35 crore. This was the highest opening ever for a straight Hindi film! Collections on the second day fell by more than 50% as it was still an odd day (Thursday) and also a working day. The original Hindi version netted Rs. 23.10 crore on day 2 while the dubbed versions collected Rs. 1.25 crore. In other words, the total for the second day was Rs. 24.35 crore. Hence its total for the first 2 days was Rs. 77.70 crore (Hindi – Rs. 74.70 crore; dubbed versions – Rs. 3 crore). The film held on best in Delhi-U.P., Eastern circuit and South India. Around 150-200 screens were added on Friday.
Syeraa Narasimha Reddy (dubbed) took a very ordinary start on Wednesday but the original Telugu version killed it at the box-office. The original version collected around Rs. 56.50 crore while the dubbed versions in Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam collected a total of Rs. 6.75 crore. The dubbed Hindi version netted Rs. 1.65 crore. In this way, the first day’s total for all the versions was Rs. 64.90 crore. The dubbed Hindi version collected Rs. 0.70 crore on the second day; the drop in collections was pronounced because Thursday was an odd day and a working day. It grossed Rs. 14 crore Overseas on the first day.
Main Zaroor Aaunga fared miserably in 1st week everywhere.
Little Baby proved a damp squib at the box-office in the first week.
Kandy Twist – The Crime Story cut a sorry picture in 1st week.
Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas crashed so badly in its second week that it is now out of the cinemas after a 12-day run.
Prassthanam also nose-dived in 2nd week. It has been discontinued from most cinemas after a 12-day run.
Dream Girl continued to reign in its third week till War arrived, following which its shows were reduced markedly. It collected Rs. 3.35 crore on Friday, Rs. 6 crore on Saturday, and Rs. 5.90 crore on Sunday. After a third weekend total of Rs. 15.25 crore, it collected as follows in the weekdays: Monday – Rs. 1.80 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 2.20 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.80 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.40 crore. By adding Rs. 5.20 crore to its kitty in the weekdays, it took its 3rd week’s total to Rs. 20.45 crore. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 131.25 crore.
Section 375 did fairly well in its 3rd week, in the premium multiplexes of big cities.
Chhichhore did well in the fourth week but only till War came on the scene, after which its shows were drastically reduced. It collected Rs. 2.20 crore on the first day of the fourth weekend. Collections increased to Rs. 4
