Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, contrary to our review, has turned out to be a super-hit. It netted Rs. 14 crore on the first day, which was a very good figure. Collections jumped by more than 40% on Saturday which, therefore, closed at an outstanding Rs. 20 crore. Sunday saw collections increase even more (Rs. 25.50 crore). In this way, the first weekend closed at Rs. 59.50 crore. Collections during the weekdays were equally outstanding. The partial holidays due to Lori (on 13th) and Sankranti (on 14th) gave more boost to the collections. Collections were as follows: Monday – Rs. 13.25 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 15 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 16 crore, Thursday – Rs. 11.25 crore. Interestingly, collections on Monday were only slightly lower than Friday but the totals for Tuesday and Wednesday were more than Friday. By adding Rs. 55.50 crore to the kitty, it took its first week’s total to Rs. 115 crore. It joined the 100-crore club on the sixth day itself! Its performance in Maharashtra (due to the film being about the Marathas) was simply phenomenal. The film is going super-strong in the second week too and is now set for a long run.

Chhapaak could not make much of a splash in 1st week. Collections may have been affected slightly by the call to boycott the film because heroine Deepika Padukone went to the JNU in Delhi three days before the film’s release to express solidarity with the anti-CAA students. It netted only Rs. 4.50 crore on the first day. Collections increased by more than 40% on Saturday but the total of Rs. 6.50 crore was not too impressive. The increase of a mere Rs. 0.50 crore on Sunday underlined the fact that the film had not found much acceptance. No doubt, it was a class-appealing film but the first weekend’s total of only Rs. 18 crore was just about okay even for a class-appealing fare starring Deepika and directed by Meghna Gulzar. Collections during the weekdays were not encouraging despite Lori and Sankranti. It netted Rs. 2.05 crore on Monday, Rs. 2.25 crore on Tuesday, Rs. 2.25 crore on Wednesday, and Rs. 1.35 crore on Thursday. By netting Rs. 7.90 crore in the weekdays, it took its first week’s total to Rs. 25.90 crore.

Darbar (dubbed) did ordinary business in the first week all over.

Good Newwz did decent business in 3rd week too, in spite of new oppositions. It collected Rs. 2 crore on Friday, Rs. 3.15 crore on Saturday, and Rs. 3.40 crore on Sunday, taking the third weekend’s total to Rs. 8.55 crore. Collections in the weekdays were also good: Monday – Rs. 1.15 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 1.65 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 1.75 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.05 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 5.60 crore. Total for 3rd week: Rs. 14.15 crore. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 195.21 crore. Overseas, it has grossed Rs. 71.05 crore!
