6 FTII STUDENTS BOOKED FOR ‘INSULTING RELIGIOUS BELIEFS’ | 25 January, 2024

A day after members of a right-wing outfit were booked for entering the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) campus in Pune and assaulting some students, the Deccan Gymkhana (Pune) police on January 24 registered a case against six students of the Institute over displaying a banner and posters with alleged “objectionable” matter, based on a cross-complaint lodged the previous night. The students were charged with imputations and assertions prejudicial to national integration, and deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings by insulting religious beliefs of a class, under IPC sections 153B and 295A.

The banner and posters put up by the students related to developments preceding the consecration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
