Music director A.R. Rahman and his wife, Saira Banu, are divorcing after 29 years of marriage. The separation was announced through a statement released by Saira’s lawyer, Vandana Shah, yesterday (November 19), citing “significant emotional strain” in their relationship as the reason.
The couple had tied the knot in March 1995 and have three children. A.R. Rahman, who has always fiercely guarded his personal life as private, expressed his emotions about the separation through a note which mentioned that they had hoped to reach 30 years of marriage.
