ACTOR S VE SHEKHER GETS 1-MONTH JAIL FOR DEROGATORY REMARK | 20 February, 2024

Tamil film actor-director and former AIADMK MLA S Ve Shekher, who joined the BJP later, has been found guilty and sentenced to one month’s simple imprisonment by a special court in Madras for his derogatory social media remarks against a lady journalist six years ago. A special court for cases against MPs and MLAs convicted the actor-politician on February 19.

The actor-filmmaker made the remarks in 2018, days after the journalist objected to the then Tamil Nadu governor, Banwarilal Purohit, patting her cheek during an official meeting. Based on a complaint filed by a journalists’ association, the Madras Central Crime Branch registered an FIR under various sections of the IPC and the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act. The bench found him guilty beyond reasonable doubt for the offence, sentenced him to jail and imposed a fine of Rs. 15,000.
