ACTRESS GETS BAIL BUT TO STAY IN JAIL IN OTHER CASE | 17 June, 2022

Marathi television actress Ketaki Chitale was granted bail by the Thane district sessions court on June 16 in the Atrocities Act case registered against her at Rabale police station in March 2020. However, she will be in judicial custody at Thane jail in the FIR against her at Kalwa police station for allegedly posting derogatory comments against NCP chief Sharad Pawar.

The Rabale police had filed a chargesheet against Chitale on May 30. A law student had lodged a complaint against her for allegedly making defamatory comments against several minority communities.

Ketaki filed a fresh petition in the Bombay high court seeking orders to declare her May 14 arrest by the Kalwa police illegal and in breach of law laid down by the Supreme Court in 2015. The apex court had struck down section 66A of the Information Technology Act. The police had arrested the 34-year-old actress for allegedly uploading and sharing an objectionable social media post about Sharad Pawar.

The senior officers of Maharashtra police have sought a report from the officers who had applied the scrapped section 66A of the Information Technology Act to Chitale.
