ACTRESS HARASSMENT: 3 SUSPENDED IPS OFFICERS NAMED ACCUSED | 24 September, 2024

The three recently suspended IPS officers of Andhra Pradesh have been named as accused in the case of framing, arresting and harassing Bombay-based actress Kadambari Jethwani and her elderly parents earlier this year in connivance with a politician and two other cops. The actress was allegedly targeted to force her to withdraw a sexual assault complaint she had filed in Bombay. The politician, YSRCP leader Kukkala Vidyasagar, has been named as the prime accused.

Vidyasagar, arrested from Dehradun on September 20 after being on the run for weeks, has been accused by the actress of falsely implicating her and her family in a forgery and extortion case, leading to their illegal detention and harassment by the Andhra policemen in February this year. He was on September 23 remanded to judicial custody till October 4.

Kadambari and her elderly parents were arrested on February 2 and released on bail after spending 42 days in jail. She filed a complaint on September 13 in Vijayawada, alleging that Vidyasagar falsely implicated her of using forged documents, resulting in her wrongful arrest and harassment. She accused senior IPS officers of orchestrating a case against her. She also alleged that during their illegal detention, she and her family were denied access to relatives or lawyers and were subjected to physical and mental harassment. She also stated that the police officers threatened her with additional false cases unless she dropped the case against Kukkala Vidyasagar.
