The Agartala police on 21st November arrested Bengali film actress and Trinamool Congress youth wing president Saayoni Ghosh on attempt to murder charge. The arrest came a day after she posted a video in which she is heard saying “khela hobe” while passing by Tripura chief minister Biplab Deb’s rally. ‘Khela hobe’ was the TMC’s rallying cry popularised before the Bengal assembly elections.
The arrest came amid heightened tension between TMC and BJP ahead of Agartala civic polls on November 25. A team of TMC MPs went to Delhi on 21st night to meet President Ram Nath Kovind and Union home minister Amit Shah to raise the issue of violence against their workers allegedly by BJP cadres.
